Senior Product Development Engineer (Mechanical)

We are looking to hire an innovative Senior Product Development Engineer to join our growing team in Slough. You will be part of the overall Research & Development business unit and will be particularly responsible for Dry Gas Seal development projects, taking concepts through the entire product development cycle to develop them into commercial products.
You will also perform a variety of mechanical engineering design and development tasks related to Dry Gas Seal products to meet business needs and departmental objectives as part of the New Product Development team.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Development and validation of new gas seal products to meet business needs and departmental objectives
• Develop innovative ideas and breakthrough technologies to support future business
• Participation in the department’s innovation initiative – the invention of new concepts, ideas and breakthrough technologies to support future business and generate new IP
• Individual responsibility for specific development programs to include the generation of development plans and specifications for standard or special products, design generation and qualification testing
• Project manage development programs to plan and budget
• Develop and implement clear plans for new products and enhancements in co-operation with Product Marketing and other areas of the company
• Use engineering judgment and experience to resolve internal and external customer inquiries as well as providing guidance and support to more junior engineers as appropriate
• Detailed engineering design using 2D and 3D CAD systems (Solid Edge preferred)
• Engineering calculation and evaluation using stress analysis, mechanics of machines, thermal dynamics and fluid mechanics
• The use of commercial design codes and FEA software such Ansys or equivalent
• Analyse and predict the performance of products using in-house analysis software (CStedy)
• Detailed failure analysis activities using a structured approach to problem solving, including investigation / reporting / resolution
• Perform and monitor testing of seal designs, whether as part of product development or for customer-specific tests
• Support the transition of a product from development into production
• Detailed technical presentations to customers in order to support sales and training initiatives
• Create and distribute technical bulletins, articles, or papers dealing with product, application, or system design
• Additional duties and responsibilities will vary based upon local business / departmental needs

Required Skills and Experience:
• Accredited mechanical engineering degree (ideally MEng/ MSc or alternatively BEng/ BSc) with a sound understanding of engineering principles
• Proven post-graduate work experience, in a mechanical product development role would be preferred
• Individual should ideally be chartered or close to attaining chartership
• Full knowledge of 3D modelling & 2D drawing with CAD software such as Solid Edge or SolidWorks
• Knowledge of Drafting and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing
• Knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (Ansys or Abaqus)
• Experience with relevant products (Ideally Mechanical Seals), Equipment (Turbo Machinery) and industry knowledge (Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Power…)
• Attention to detail and the ability to build good relationships
• Innovative mind, and focused on deadlines and targets
• Good interpersonal skills
