ESA
Packings Division
The members of the ESA Packings Division are manufacturers and suppliers of all types of compression packings which have evolved far beyond their traditional image as simple braided fibres.
Today, compression packings are engineered sealing solutions designed to meet demanding requirements for reliability, emissions control, safety, and lifecycle cost across a wide range of industrial applications. Advances in materials science, braiding technology, and lubrication systems have transformed packings into high-performance components suitable for both rotating and reciprocating equipment, as well as valves operating under severe pressure and temperature conditions.

ESA Packings Division members produce packings that incorporate sophisticated fibres such as expanded PTFE, flexible graphite, aramids, carbon and hybrid yarns, often combined with tailored lubricants and corrosion inhibitors. These designs allow controlled leakage where required, excellent chemical resistance, reduced shaft or stem wear, and stable performance under thermal cycling and vibration. Importantly, modern low-emission valve packings can comply with stringent international standards such as ISO12101 or 15848 and API 622, reinforcing their relevance in environmentally regulated industries.
As industries seek dependable, cost-effective, and maintainable sealing solutions—especially for existing equipment—modern compression packings continue to offer a proven balance of performance, simplicity, and operational resilience.
Packings Division members work together to ensure that:
Our customers are given the best possible advice on how to handle and use our products.
We collaborate in generic research to better understand product behaviour and properties and bridge knowledge gaps.
We work with national and international bodies to make sure standards and legislation relating to our products take account of best practice and are truly relevant.
We encourage the development and training of young engineers and technicians in compression packing technology.
