ESA Expansion Joints Division

Projects and activities

Current projects of the Expansion Joints Division are outlined below.

Fabric Expansion Joint Design Configurator

The configuration of a fabric expansion joint is a complex engineering task. The division has developed an Expansion Joint Design Configurator as a digital tool to support engineers and plant operators in the correct selection and preliminary configuration of fabric expansion joints.

The ESA Design Configurator has been developed by leading European manufacturers within the division to provide structured guidance based on industry best practice. The tool allows users to input key operating and installation data and receive a technically reasoned preliminary configuration. It supports informed decision-making at early project stages while reinforcing good engineering practice in line with relevant European and international standards.

The configurator is not intended to replace a detailed engineering review by experienced manufacturers. Rather, it serves as a practical guidance platform — improving specification quality, reducing errors, and enhancing communication between end users and suppliers. At the moment, it is still in development stage but will be available later this year.
