As part of ESA’s ongoing commitment to reducing plastic waste and promoting sustainability across the sealing industry, we are proud to highlight an exciting new step forward in eco-innovation — the development of biodegradable stretch foil for packaging purpose.

At Biowrap they produce 100% biodegradable and compostable films and solutions, thus contributing to the reduction of plastic pollution and CO2 emissions. Raw materials do not emit harmful gases during production and therefore non-polluting with an almost zero environmental impact. Compostable films will help the planet reduce greenhouse gases (responsible for global warming of the planet) and post-consumer waste (global/ocean pollution).
The “Biowrap Stretch” is a highly transparent 100% biocompostable film (barcode reading through the film without difficulty) with good tensile strength and stretchability suitable for manual use or on automatic machines, suitable for all kinds of wrapping machines (up to 200% in mechanical brake).
These biodegradable materials break down at least 90% within 6 months in an industrial composting facility or a home composting setup. However, the exact duration of the process depends on the waste type, thickness and the type of composting facility.

Key features:
- 100% compostable for eco-friendly waste management
- No harmful emissions during production
- Thickness 15 to 30 Microns on 25 or 38 mandrel (in food alimentary application only) and 50 or 76mm mandrel for manual or automatic palettizing in industry.
- Excellent tensile strength and stretch up 200%
- Reducing plastic pollution
- Reducing CO2 emissions
- Available as both machine and hand films
- Complies to EN13432
- Doesn’t produce microplastics!
See the video below for the demonstration realized with the BIOWRAP STRETCH® by Chaire CoPack and AgroParis Tech in real condition of industrial compost:
Let’s make a difference together by supporting biocompostable films in packaging. By choosing these sustainable alternatives, we can reduce waste, enrich our soils, and reduce the effects of climate change. It’s time to embrace a greener future for packaging, one that benefits our planet and contributes to a more environmentally friendly world for our children’s future.
ESA is now concluding this development phase and encourages members interested in sustainable stretch foil to reach out to BIOWRAP in France directly. Their team can tailor material properties to meet specific application needs — balancing performance, manufacturability, and environmental responsibility.
